A white painted un-shuttered entrance with cerulean framing leads to a dim space full of sooty, dusty objects. The low walls are partially covered in many tan colored slashes. The bright yellow board that leans on one of the moody walls, with luminous and saturated color pallet is one of the few vibrant items in otherwise calm and muted space. This is the artisanal pottery studio of Nour and Mekki in Beni Khiar, just stone’s throw away from the infamous calm shores of the mediterranean sea. This is the perfect emerging place for Nedra Chachoua’s ceramic objects. In the far right corner of the studio, a handful of Nedra Chachoua’s ceramic objects rest and wait for their completion. They have been masterfully handcrafted by four skillful hands that have already seen a tremendous amount of shapes and materials. Elaborate yet condensed proportions are painted over with the right amount of carefully chosen colors, drawing inspiration from the region’s most recognizable surfaces and colors.
